- Applebee’s- I think that the large majority of people are in agreement that the food and refreshments provided at this year’s Camelback Run and Race Expo FREE of charge by Applebee’s were phenomenal. I don’t think that I have ever been to a race that let me drink smoothies until my insides were frozen or gave me a FREE steak dinner after the race. Brenda, Christa and the entire Applebee’s crew definitely over-extended themselves for the club and our community with what they did for us this year. Their sense of community spirit was incredible. They have told us that they are definitely on board for future Camelback Races, but in order for them to duplicate what they did for us this year, the “higher ups” need to hear about what they did for us. Please take a moment to visit www.applebees.com. On the left side of the page, click on “About Us,” go down to “Contact Us” and let them know what great things that Applebee’s of Fremont did for their community on June 20, 2009. Your efforts will be appreciated and will help to ensure that Applebee’s can continue to be a part of our club’s marquee event.

- FERC Race Series Standings- It took awhile and we did the best that we could. The standings have been updated and are at www.fremontrunningandfitness.com. It is highly likely that we may have made a few minor errors. This is due to having to build the results from “The News Messenger Camelback Run” from the ground up using the full results and the entry forms from all who participated. Doing this took a considerable amount of time and was like trying to build a model ship in a bottle while studying for a statistics test. Not a whole lot of fun. If you do see an error, please let me know and we will get it fixed.

- David John Guardiola Track and Field Meet 2009- Saturday, July 18th at the Fremont Ross Track. This is a great track and field meet that is competitive, fun and supports a very worthwhile local cause. There are events for all ages and all skill levels. Online entry is now up and more information is available at www.davidjguardiola.com. Can’t run? Come out and lend a hand timing or helping out with a field event.

- TEAM Jenny 5k- Thank you to everyone who came out and supported the event in it’s first year! @181 people took part in the 5K Run, Walk and Kids Run. Full results and photos are available at www.fremontrunningandfitness.com

- 2nd Annual Mystery Run- Thursday, August 20th. 630 pm. Biggs Kettner Eastside Park/Fremont Community Recreation Complex. Will it be 5K, 4 Miles, 5 Miles or 10K? Nobody will know until 530pm on the day of the race when the distance is pulled from a hat. No shirts or awards. Just a fun and unique workout with fellow runners. $2 per person entry fee includes post race cookout in the park and swim at the Rec Complex. Entry forms available at the Fremont Community Recreation Complex and www.fremontrunningandfitness.com

- The Inaugural Northcoast Inland Trail Relay- “Almost 22 Miles from Clyde to Elmore!” Full results are available at www.fremontrunningandfitness.com. Photo’s will be posted soon. If you missed it, start getting your team together now because it will be back next June!

- Ohio/Michigan 4 Mile Run- Sunday, July 19th. 9:00am. Pacesetter Park, Sylvania. Transportation is available for anyone who would like to have a club road trip to the race. The van will leave the Fremont Community Recreation Complex at 7:00 am and will return shortly after the race. Reserve your seat today by emailing Marc at mdglotz@fremontohio.org. Entry forms for the race are available at www.toledoroadrunners.org and at the Fremont Community Recreation Complex.

- Sole To Soul 5K- Presented by Second Sole of Perrysburg. Wednesday, August 5th. 830pm. Second Sole at Levis Commons, Perrysburg. Many of you have had the opportunity to meet Second Sole of Perrysburg’s Manager, Matt Folk. Not only is he an incredible runner (2009 Melt The Ice 5K Champion and 2009 Camelback Run Champion….. Oh yeah, he won the Glass City Marathon too!), but he is a great guy who has been very supportive of the Fremont Elite Runners Club and all of the events in our community. Head out to Second Sole on August 5th and help them celebrate their 1 Year Anniversary. Start and finish is at the store on a fast, flat and accurate 5K course around Levis Commons. Finishers gifts for all participants, refreshments, door prizes and special sales at the store. – Katie Update- Many of you had the opportunity to visit with or run with Katie Visco last month as she came through our area. Katie is attempting to become the youngest female to run across the United States. She is currently in the Chicago area (her hometown) and taking a much needed and deserved rest for a few days before heading back out on her quest to reach San Diego in December. Marc

What started out as a casual/easy 4 mile run with Katie Visco early this morning in an effort to keep her company on her quest to run across the United States, turned into an almost 9 mile jaunt along Route 20 from Four Mile House Road to the suburbs of Woodville.

FERC members joining in this morning were: Dave Slater, Dave Boyle, Adam Miller and Marc Glotzbecker

Some interesting observations from Route 20:

1. No joke…The road kill seemed to get larger the further we went along (mouse, squirrel, big snake (really big and ugly), raccoon, deer).

2. The miles seemed to just roll by in the company of good people.

3. The trip from Woodville went alot quicker than the trip to Woodville (My wife is a saint for coming along and bringing us all back to Fremont).

4. Katie has a non stop motor for someone who is running across the country!

5. The cooling breeze from the semi’s as they blasted past us was quite refreshing. It smelled like diesel and exhaust, but refreshing just the same.

6. I finally found out where “Busy Corners” is located.

7. Running with someone trying to navigate the country by foot earned us a FREE T Shirt!

8. Being able to say when I got back to work: “I ran to Woodville this morning…. ON ROUTE 20!” was AWESOME!

In all seriousness, Katie and her crew of Ellen left Fremont with a great impression of our community and it’s residents. Thanks to Father Dave and Charles for stopping out last night and to Jeremy McMullen and his family for giving Katie and Ellen a place to stay.

TEAM JENNY 5K RUN/WALK & 1/2 MILE KIDS FUN RUN- Many of you know Jenny (Gabel) Burroughs. Jenny is a phenomenal area runner who competed in high school and at Tri State University on both the track and cross country team. In addition, Jenny helped to coach the young people of our community in both the YMCA Track Program and the Fremont Flash Program. TEAM JENNY emerged two years ago when she was in a life threatening accident, suffering 2nd and 3rd degree burns and many broken bones. Showing her spirit and determination, Jenny has persevered through it all and has created an organization to help families battling medical hardships. The TEAM JENNY 5K will benefit Abby Johnson, a 13 year old girl diagnosed with a cancerous brain tumor. The event will be held on Saturday, June 27th at 9:00 am and will start and finish at the Fremont Community Recreation Complex. The course will travel through neighboring streets around the Complex and Eastside Park. The Fremont Parks and Recreation Department is both proud and humbled to be able to host this very worthwhile event. Entry forms will be available at www.fremontrunningandfitness.com soon, at the Fremont Community Recreation Complex, Bob Semer Memorial 10K and the Camelback Run.
